May Collaborative is a design firm formed for the purpose of bringing a thoughtful, informed approach to planning and design.
Our name is representative of our practice. May is about possibilities and growth. Through collaborative engagement with the client, consulting engineers, contractors, and trades, to our internal team collaboration, we work in an ego-free manner to deliver your project.
We do not physically construct buildings, we plan them, and we coordinate the complex systems held within. We bridge the gap between owner and construction, supporting the design from concept through construction process, ensuring the project is delivered with the embedded intent.

Architect
John Koury, AIA
With 25 years of experience in design of commercial, adaptive reuse, residential, specialized food, and advanced manufacturing, John thrives on complex design challenges. John works to the scale of the people that inhabit the places whether it is a 50-acre development or single room installations.
John holds licenses in 20+ states and a Bachelor of Architecture from University of Kentucky.
Architect
Melanie Spreen
As an architect and architectural historian, Melanie is passionate about contextual design that reflects the history and culture of a place. She embraces a holistic approach to architecture and planning to create meaningful new spaces that enhance community connections and experience.
Melanie graduated from Clemson University with a B.S. in Design and University of North Carolina-Charlotte with Bachelor of Architecture. She also received a Master of Fine Arts in Architectural History from Savannah College of Art and Design.
